Convert ASS Subtitles to SRT Text and Timing
Extract the dialogue and timestamps from an ASS subtitle script into a simpler SRT file. This route is useful when styling is not part of the destination requirement and readable timing is the priority.
What ASS contains that SRT does not
ASS can describe styles, margins, positioning, effects, script metadata, and dialogue events. SRT is intentionally simpler: numbered cues, start and end times, and text. CaptionShift reads the ASS dialogue timing and text, removes ASS override tags from the displayed text, and writes an SRT-compatible cue body.
Expect to review the result if the source relies on exact placement, typefaces, colors, karaoke effects, or other styling.

Known losses

- Dialogue fields are interpreted from the ASS event structure; unusual custom formats should be checked.
- There is no automatic video comparison, translation, transcription, or drift repair.

Is ASS to SRT a lossless conversion?
No. Caption timing and readable text are the focus, while ASS-specific styling and script features can be lost.
Can I keep the ASS font and screen position?
Not in a standard SRT output. Those features belong to the richer ASS model and need a destination that supports them.
What should I do after exporting?
Open the SRT in the destination player or editor and check line breaks, timing, and any speaker or effect information that mattered in the source.
